About Sandra

Sandra Hopley is an artist located in Vancouver British Columbia. She grew up building forts and climbing trees in the woods, and her love for the outdoors has only intensified over the years.

“Moving to British Columbia, hiking and exploring the wilderness, I knew I had to find a way to capture its beauty and magnificence.”

Primarily a plein air painter, Sandra Hopley aims to transport the viewer to scenes that they wouldn’t otherwise experience, whether it be a grand vista or an intimate corner of the forest.

“I find painting outdoors extremely challenging, but always rewarding whether or not my painting is successful. I feel so alive when I’m alone with my dog, painting the light and essence of the landscape before me.”

Plein air paintings are usually completed in one session, on location, and often contain a particular freshness and magical sense of place. Sandra has travelled extensively and believes plein air painting has enabled her to develop the ability to transfer the emotions she feels on location into her studio paintings.
